What does it mean to be sitting at the wheel of a beautiful James Bond car that sadly will never accommodate all the teaching materials I need to carry around for my workshops.  It looks identical to the James Bond car on my last Intuitive Vision Board (IVB) and it’s exciting to be sitting at the wheel of this one year later. But what does this picture on my vision board mean?

My intention is not to brag about them but to illustrate how the IVB works.  The images I’d pasted on my vision board 12 months ago have quietly worked away on my behalf, magnetising opportunities to me in a way that defies logic.

It’s often many moons before you see the evidence of this, which might frustrate a person who likes instant results.  But this is how the creative mind works, slowly and mysteriously, because it has to synthesise a lot of acausal data that might appear random to the intellect at first.

Signs and symbols

The images on your vision board have been chosen by the intuition and not the logic. They point the way but they are not the end destination. As a Somatic Arts Psychotherapist I naturally tune into the signs, symbols and metaphors of the images and I am looking for the patterns and the connections between them.  When working with a client’s vision board, my role is to help them ‘loosen the soil’ around their images, encouraging light and air to reach them, while resisting the temptation to over-water the plant.

Even though I am fully conversant with psychological content, the perspective of the creator will always has primacy over mine.  My role is to listen intuitively and encourage their answers, the full significance of which will emerge either during the session or days and weeks later.

Our precognitive ability is remarkable

The IVB provides a glimpse into the future to prepare us for what lies ahead so we can recognise it when it happens.  Not by over-thinking the images and ascribing too much significance to them prematurely.  But by attending quietly over the weeks to the silent messages the board emits until this potential is knowable and known. Meanwhile the purpose of the IVB is to goad the creator in the right direction of this unfolding potential until they have arrived there.

Metaphors

James Bond and sports cars have been recurring metaphors on my last two boards.  I don’t read into this a literal desire to hook up with Daniel Craig or even to own an Aston Martin, although they are both delicious.  Their presence on my board suggests glamour, speed and a touch of class and that I shouldn’t be surprised to experience some of this in the years ahead.  Bring it on.

The car is a symbol of power, energy, and movement.  By getting us from A to B fast, the car can facilitate decision making and instant action.  I’ve done a lot of that over the past two years and the cars on my boards are reassurance this was absolutely what was required of me.

I’ve over-worked this explanation to give you a feel for how one image can work to reveal layer upon layer of meaning beyond the blindingly obvious.  Suffice to say that when I look at the car on my board, I don’t go looking for this detail all the time.  I receive what I need to know in a succinct intuitive download and without analysing it to pieces. And so it is with all the other images.

My 2020 Vision

It’s the start of a new decade and my 2020 IVB is fresh out of the ground.  I sit before the potential of these new shoots in wonder and anticipation, observing how each board I’ve created for the past 10 years is so different from the previous.  As always, I never begin with any preconceived ideas of what might appear this time and I don’t an explanation for what it is I am looking at.  Time will tell.

Yet somewhere deep within me understands the totality of this constellation of images already as I contemplate this board that appears unfathomable at first.  I enjoy the excitement and anticipation of what I am looking at and commit to remaining interested in the images until they bear fruit.

Eroticism v goals

Creating an IVB is an excellent way to tune in to what’s alive in you before the ego takes over and plans your life away.  For me, making an IVB is an erotic act – a way to awaken and stimulate dormant desires that I might never have considered or could have easily been overlooked. It’s a way to stoke the fire.

Rather than setting goals for the next 12 months, which can become a two-dimensional exercise very quickly, you might ask yourself these open three-dimensional questions.  Don’t strive for the answers. Let them come to you. And don’t expect to condense them into tidy sentences.

“What life wants to be created through me?

“What people, places and pursuits I anticipate excite me?”

“What story am I called upon to write next ?

What would happen if we neither asked these questions nor made an IVB and lay the same questions before universal intelligence?

Your year would fill up with other things which may not be as penetrating or as ground-breaking as if you’d had a guiding hand from your intuition.

Even then you shouldn’t expect the path ahead to suddenly appear in front of you even when you have a IVB in place. The possibility and poetry of it will show its face on your board but the path itself will only emerge as you take it  – and won’t if you don’t.
